It is being reported in the English media that Man City are well ahead of Chelsea in the race to sign Southampton’s, Ryan Bertrand.
City has been the most active English team in the transfer market so far after making two new signings. The Citizens are set to continue this spending spree and are expected to make moves for some home-grown talents.
Bertrand is also wanted by his former team Chelsea as they look for adequate competition for Marcos Alonso, but their interest is lukewarm compared to City.
The Saints left-back is believed to have informed close friends and relatives that this would be his last season at Saint Mary’s, and since Tottenham’s Danny Rose is still out injured, and a deal for AS Monaco’s Benjamin Mendy is proving difficult, many believe Pep Guardiola is about to swoop on Bertrand.
The Spanish boss has to sign a new left-back this summer after letting Gael Clichy leave the Etihad Stadium for free. Guardiola currently has no left back as he prefers to use Alexandr Kolarov as a left-sided centre-back.
His first choice target is AS Monaco’s Benjamin Mendy, but there has been too much delay in the move to sign the player, and he wants to wrap up his transfer business as early as possible.
